It's actually January 21st, and not including this evening's lineup, I have seen 18 bands and been at 9 shows so far this year already. Wow.
Wow.
Ready, steady, go!

I got the power-pop crap kicked out of me with ChrisB front row at the Triple Door for Fountains of Wayne and Jon Auer last Thursday -- seriously. What a show! You can read more about it here -- I had no idea how good it was going to be. Suffice it to say that my new FoW mix is now lodged in heavy rotation.

Then on Saturday, the first stop on my local music mini-tour got underway with Jon Auer's headlining set, and was it ever so excellent. Also, Gavin Guss is my new favorite local pianist, for sure. The Triple Door is surprisingly contrast-y and sort of rough to shoot (which is a sentiment shared by several of the local photogs I've met) but I managed to pull off a few workable shots.

Pablo Trucker had my second slot of the night on Saturday at the Sunset... there are just no words for how good these dudes are. Plus my camera [hearts] them in a big way. As I wrote up for TIG, what the two of them do is nothing short of a triumph, and I mean that with all the weight I can convey. I am so excited for these guys to do well!

... and the night wrapped up with Visqueen's sold out show at the Tractor. Where I managed to not only dig on my fourth performer of the night, but also to make a fool out of myself in front of several legitimate rock stars, because I was so geeked out at that point that I could barely speak properly. Awesome. Let's hope it came across as "cute" and "endearing" or whatever.
There's a corresponding writeup of epic length and much photog, but as of this moment it's not posted (mostly because I was too wasted with show-buzz to get it up in a timely manner). Link forthcoming, for next week's post at least.
And speaking of forthcoming, here's what's up & coming:
With lots of love and legal stimulants,

And speaking of forthcoming, here's what's up & coming:
- Last night's mega-show at Neumo's with Tapes 'n Tapes, Wild Light, and Fences
- Tonight's John Spalding benefit with Damien Jurado at Chop Suey
- Tomorrow's road trip to Bellingham for the Jenny Lewis / Norfolk and Western show
- ChrisB's birthday bash (Friday)
- The Walkmen (Saturday)
- and me not leaving the house for a week afterwards. Well, no, that's a lie - because next weekend is Jose Bold's rescheduled album release, Soft Rock at the Triple Door, and the Vera Benefit.
With lots of love and legal stimulants,
iVIVA!
