Check this out!

Johnny Sangster used one of my photos for his website redesign, from the shots I took at the Tractor for Quadrophenia cover night. I don't even know what to say -- it's so amazing, getting to be a part of such an awesome, thriving, vibrant local music scene! Not bad, for still being a new girl and all. Right?

Seriously. Seriously! Yay!

there's so many rad shots I have to post, but I'm all wrapped up working on this. and a ton of other behind-the-scenes magic, with the help of some sparkling cats.

brb, swear. love you, mean it.

It's actually January 21st, and not including this evening's lineup, I have seen 18 bands and been at 9 shows so far this year already. Wow.

Wow.

Ready, steady, go!

3209111434_86b6696e91_o.jpgI got the power-pop crap kicked out of me with ChrisB front row at the Triple Door for Fountains of Wayne and Jon Auer last Thursday -- seriously. What a show! You can read more about it here -- I had no idea how good it was going to be. Suffice it to say that my new FoW mix is now lodged in heavy rotation.

Then on Saturday, the first stop on my local music mini-tour got underway with Jon Auer's headlining set, and was it ever so excellent. Also, Gavin Guss is my new favorite local pianist, for sure. The Triple Door is surprisingly contrast-y and sort of rough to shoot (which is a sentiment shared by several of the local photogs I've met) but I managed to pull off a few workable shots.

3212214733_256388626c_o.jpgPablo Trucker had my second slot of the night on Saturday at the Sunset... there are just no words for how good these dudes are. Plus my camera [hearts] them in a big way. As I wrote up for TIG, what the two of them do is nothing short of a triumph, and I mean that with all the weight I can convey. I am so excited for these guys to do well!

3212283441_c16881c6cc_o.jpg... and the night wrapped up with Visqueen's sold out show at the Tractor. Where I managed to not only dig on my fourth performer of the night, but also to make a fool out of myself in front of several legitimate rock stars, because I was so geeked out at that point that I could barely speak properly. Awesome. Let's hope it came across as "cute" and "endearing" or whatever.

There's a corresponding writeup of epic length and much photog, but as of this moment it's not posted (mostly because I was too wasted with show-buzz to get it up in a timely manner). Link forthcoming, for next week's post at least.

And speaking of forthcoming, here's what's up & coming:

  • Last night's mega-show at Neumo's with Tapes 'n Tapes, Wild Light, and Fences
  • Tonight's John Spalding benefit with Damien Jurado at Chop Suey
  • Tomorrow's road trip to Bellingham for the Jenny Lewis / Norfolk and Western show
  • ChrisB's birthday bash (Friday)
  • The Walkmen (Saturday)
  • and me not leaving the house for a week afterwards. Well, no, that's a lie - because next weekend is Jose Bold's rescheduled album release, Soft Rock at the Triple Door, and the Vera Benefit.
Also, stay tuned... details on my show at the West Seattle Artwalk up in next week's post! Woo!

With lots of love and legal stimulants,

And, we're back!

3173494960_a3fe8430dd_o.jpg New Year's Eve was, in short, awesome. Here's the Norfolk and Western portion of the night.

3175482913_099da06966_o.jpg And DeVotchKa was nothing short of brilliant. Both in photo and adjective.

3190939395_8ee8547394_o.jpg Hazelwood Motel put on a great show last Thursday, and the Animals at Night & Black Daisy stole a good slice of the stage. Plus I have a new BFF, who likes to leave me encouraging comments. It's awesome!

3196062120_61ae3cc9f8_b.jpg Sunday's imaginary meetup was a blast. No report, just some fun shots.

3136697517_8c0d330264_o.jpg Oh, and I finally starting getting to my archives, which are popping up here and there around my flickr sets. I remember being beyond excited to have gotten this shot to come out. Speaking of Charles, Kevin & Co., they've got some news underfoot.

Things & items:

  • Andrew from Pablo Trucker lives downstairs from me, with his awesome girlfriend Jessica. What are the odds, right? And they're playing Saturday at the Sunset, inbetween the Tripwires and Visqueen sets at the Tractor.
  • I have internet. Just sayin'.
  • The pictures have not disappeared. Part of me keeps expecting them to.
  • Mini-tour '09 starts this week, with the Fountains of Wayne acoustic show on Thursday, Moondoggies on Friday, and the Saturday Night Ballard Spectacular mentioned above. I'm going to have to start wearing sneakers to shows.
  • Next week is (ready?) Tapes 'n Tapes on Tuesday, Damien Jurado on Wednesday, Jenny Lewis / Norfolk & Western on Thursday, ChrisB's birthday party on Friday, and the Walkmen on Saturday. I'm tired just thinking about it.
Um... not kidding. I'm going to bed. Stat.

So good! So good! So good!
