December 2008 Archives

Best-slash-most-bonkers week, ever! It occurs to me that I'm starting to say that every week. But this time, I mean it.

monday01.jpg First off, it snowed. It hasn't snowed to these proportions in, oh, about a decade. Seriously. I'm not exaggerating.

monday02.jpg Then, Christmas happened. Best! Holiday! Ever! Scrabble, oil paints, and a carb coma.

monday03.jpg Friday, I got to see a band called Connecticut Four, with Keenan and ChrisB. New fave local
all-girl band... probably my only fave local all-girl band, now that I think of it.

monday035.jpg Saturday, Joshua Morrison put on a ridiculously good set at the Triple Door. So good that I emoted all over the TIG blog, which you can read for yourself here.

monday04.jpg And then... then there was this. I swore I wouldn't do it, I said I wouldn't, and then I did it. Unwillingly. And this picture, of me on John Roderick's lap, shows up in the pool, and may very well be my new favorite picture of myself.

See? It is another best week ever!

Up & coming:

  • DeVotchKa, for New Year's Eve at the Showbox
  • "Awesome" (woo!) at Neumo's this Saturday
  • Hazelwood Motel, The Walkmen, Friday Mile at ChrisB's birthday bash, and a zillion other bands starting to fill up the calendar for a busy January.
  • And... a new apartment, all shiny and bright, and photo ideas already starting to pile up. Like girls wrapped up in flags, and pretty plates, and tiny lights.
Stay tuned & rock safely, kids. Oh, and ps: we [heart] Telekinesis.

See you next week, post-haste.

I still can't believe this really happened. Somebody pinch me!

Death Cab for Cutie, at WaMu last Tuesday.

cwk02.jpg

And Cold War Kids too.

stg03.jpg

And Shiny Toy Guns.

aqd04.jpg

And Aqueduct.

troy05.jpg

And then the sixth annual Yule Benefit, with Grand Archives, Shearwater, and The Dutchess and The Duke.

Seriously. Plus, ChrisB and I getting our socks knocked off at The Tractor Saturday night, with a dozen different bands doing "Quadrophenia" from start to finish.

I'm not kidding. I'm still editing. You can't really shoot the first three songs when the band keeps changing!

Up & Coming:

Stay tuned!

You guys. Seriously.

[PS - like, four other awesome bands too. I'll have the rest up in a day or so.]

This, my friends, is getting good. So good that I'm starting to have a hard time talking in complete sentences.

scn01.jpg

Sean Nelson and Colin Meloy knocked it out of the park on Thursday. Not my best work, the lighting guy was a tad ambitious. The new lens I picked up today, however, should stop that from getting in my way. We'll find out tonight.

I didn't have clearance to shoot Colin Meloy, but this about sums it up.

Ikea. It was like a full-blown field trip... seriously. It's about eight hundred times bigger than the New Haven one. Gallery en route.

eb03.jpg

And, another round with Elliott Brood, this time with some Michael Vermillion on the side. Plus post.

I'd love to tell you about my upcoming week, but... you probably wouldn't believe me... I'll just have to show you. Be back in a few days with the most mother ____ing delicious report yet (we hope).

I hope everyone had a great holiday!

It was somewhat of a slow week, but I did get to see the Memphis Radio Kings on Saturday at the High Dive. They're great guys, and it was nice ground for experimenting with my rear-curtain flash settings.

DSC_0500.jpg

I also got to practice depth of field and focus points on a mini-self portrait project, starring my new glasses.

IMG_6089.JPG

And to top it off, the long weekend involved this big bacon slab of deliciousness, with a side of full-length review. I'll post that as soon as the link is up on TIG. Holy ____s.

The up & coming is still up & coming, and if I can get my act together, I might have a big-whammy super-dose of singer-songwriter to add to it for next week's post. See you then!
