Is it Tuesday? How in the ____ did that happen? Actually, it's Wednesday. But still Tuesday. Sort of.

Eat. Sleep. Rock. Repeat. Get a crazy, mindblowing scenic tour of the neighborhood from my new friend Mark. Can someone please hire me to start shooting album covers?

Up & Coming:

Futuresque:

Stay tuned! Both for the ensuing photos, and for my slow melt into a show-bliss puddle on the floor of the Tractor. Most likely with this as my soundtrack between bands.

Has it only been a week? Seriously.

Monday, with Cowboymouth and the Memphis Radio Kings:

cmouth1.jpgTuesday, with the Breeders:

breeders1.jpgThursday, at the Awesome rehearsal:

awesome1.jpgSaturday, at the Awesome show:

awesome2.jpgAnd on top of all this, a super rad shoot at Wexley School for Girls yesterday, that I'm not allowed to drop until next week. Trailers, and bears, and pianos, and rubber chickens.

I'm not kidding.

Waiting patiently in the wings as our upcoming week unfolds...

  • 11/17 - Mailing party at KEXP
  • 11/18 - Moondoggies, Maldives, et al. doing a benefit at the Sunset. A gorgeous little place to see such beautious alt-country deliciousness. And for a good cause!
  • 11/19 - Half Brothers at the Highway 99 Blues Club
  • 11/20 - Tom Brosseau! And Mary! A night of well-lit, lush deliciousness at the Triple Door
  • 11/21 - Theater Dangerously at Rendezvous (8 & 11) and Crack Sabbath at High Dive
  • 11/22 - Head Like a Kite with Truckasaurus at Neumo's, plus a benefit over at the Annex Theater
So, that's what happened, and that's what's happening. Articles at TIG abound, something like a real tearsheet, and I'm even putting together a portfolio. Sleep is for the weak.

"awesome": part III

Another amazing, gorgeous, lush week in our sparkling city.

DSC_0031.jpgAfter the lunge of election-level celebratory events during the first half of the week (yes, we can!), I spent Thursday morning at McCaw Hall for the Grammy PNW event. Holy crap. I sat in on a panel with the heads of a half-dozen labels (read: I was five feet away from head execs from Warner, Sub Pop, Barsuk, Kill Rock Stars, and MySpace, trying not to have an accident) and got to work the front table checking in various industry execs. There's no photoessay, it was just so noteworthy that I didn't want the week to slide by without mentioning it. That, and the architecture of the main entrace is sweet - lots of windows, and this piece, which is basically the chandelier. Yow.

DSC_0052.jpgAlso noteworthy was My Weekend With "Awesome", which does come with a photoessay. This show gets better and better every week! I sat in for Friday to continue the wave of Obama-bliss...

DSC_0133.jpg ...and had to go back to get it all from the front row Saturday. I mean, seriously. How was everyone in Seattle not at this show? I swear, they get better every week.

The Gnews:

This is going to be totally bonkers. I can't wait. And a one, and a two...

  • 11/10 - Stripped-down rock for the masses (from what I remember when I saw them 10 years ago) with Cowboymouth at the Tractor
  • 11/11 - Working the KEXP table for the Breeders at Neumo's (!)
  • 11/13 - Phase one of our own local Stitch & Bitch, up on Janet's on 15th. Oversized thumbs optional.
  • 11/14 - Andrea Wittgens and a slew of other great bands to celebrate her cd release at the Tractor. Holy ____s.
  • 11/15 - Phase four of the "Awesome" cycle, at ACT. Last chance to come and soak up all this musical and comedic brilliance - such a bargain! Be there!
  • 11/16 - Henry Owings talks about the Rock Bible at Sonic Boom on Capitol Hill, 3 pm
Oh, and I've been building up my resume over at TIG - I should get a few more articles up this week if you feel like stopping by to take a look.

Hi. I live here. A bunch of good ones this week to round out October's set.

Yeah, I can take pictures of babies. And goats.

awe207.jpg Lucky me, getting to shoot at the "Awesome" week two rehearsal...

...and at the show. As I wrote up for the sneak peek on TIG: "Oh, PS - these guys can sing their ____s off." No joke.

More lusty checkered scooter rides.

Lady Dottie & the Diamonds this week was super fun to shoot, and you can see the rest of the time we had here.

And let's not forget about the Best. Monday. Ever. With Jack Wilson & the Wife Stealers, and the stupid good Pablo Trucker set.My goodness.

I'm exhausted just remembering all of it. What a week!

Upcoming & up & coming:

  • If I was free tonight, I'd go check out The Henry Clay People, for free, at Nectar. You can listen to the in-studio, for free, on KEXP at 3pm as well.
  • My friend Morgan's band, Past Lives, will be taking Tuesday's 3pm spot on the in-studio roster. I'll be shooting. Hurray! Plus, there's about eight thousand election night parties: the Stranger is having one at the Showbox, and there's one at Victrola on 15th too (if you don't feel like coming off the Hill). All for free.
  • We'll all be rejoicing [or weeping and packing for Canada] on Wednesday. In either case, we can all bond about it on Friday at ACT...
  • I'll be volunteering for these peeps on Thursday morning, and gushing over industry folk. I've been told they even have turkey sandwiches in lunchboxes for us, on top of people from Barsuk and stuff. Ngk.
  • Celebrate, or stab yourself - just keep it together long enough for the third installment of the "Awesome" cycle at ACT, 8 on Friday & 8 and 10:30 on Saturday.
Bring it! How about some Breeders, some Cowboymouth (audience participation, yay!), knitting parties, imaginary meetings, boys with five first names, and - yes - even more "Awesome"? It's all coming up next week. And I think I might have just gotten published again... because of a Polaroid? I'm not quite sure how it happened, but I've been promised details.
